To mark Maggie Adamson's first season as skipper we are planning a ladies only trip with an all female crew. No fixed itinerary, just a weekend exploring Shetland's coastline while making the most of the weather, wind and company. No previous experience is needed, just a willingness to learn, get stuck in and enjoy.

With no fixed itinerary, our skipper will pick the route to make the best of the weather, and wind, over the weekend. Leaving from Lerwick, there is the choice of heading south, seeing Mousa and anchoring at Levenwick beach for example, or heading north and exploring the east mainland and the northern isles.

Boarding the Swan at 10am Friday morning, your stay will begin with a comprehensive safety briefing including how to work the lines on deck and set the sails. We will then put this into practice, enjoying the Swan under sail while we find a picturesque anchorage to spend the night and get to know your crew mates over dinner before turning in for a good night’s sleep.

Saturday will begin with a hearty breakfast; before raising the sails and further exploring the delights of the Shetland coastline. If weather and time allows, we may launch the dinghy to go ashore in some locations. On Sunday, you will complete your trip by heading back to Lerwick and disembarking in the late afternoon.

A voyage on Swan is very much a hands-on experience - you are part of her crew, and work as a team to make your voyage happen. All tasks are shared and everyone joins in, from the most to the least experienced. If you have a musical instrument, please bring it along as we may have time for a tune as well. For more details of what to expect on board please refer to our Welcome Aboard leaflet.

Included in voyage

Included in the price of this trip are sailing instruction, accommodation and all meals for the duration of your stay. There are waterproofs onboard, however you may feel more comfortable in your own wet weather gear. For further details on what is included, and what to bring with you, please refer to our kit list.

Please note: You may need to board and/or disembark the Swan via a vertical pier ladder. Ensure you wear sensible footwear, with good grips, and warm clothing, and don't forget your binoculars and camera.
