Faroe Island Games

Join us on this very unique adventure heading North to the spectacular Faroe Islands. There will be a good opportunity to enjoy some blue water sailing, and the excitement of the seven day medley of sporting activities as Faroe hosts the Island Games, with Team Shetland competing in many disciplines.

Boarding at 10am, your trip will begin with a comprehensive safety briefing, including how to work the lines on deck. We will then put this into practice and raise the sails, heading North up the East Coast of Shetland Isles before cutting through one of the channels at Yell. After leaving the shelter of the land we will set sail for the remaining 180 miles to Faroe.

While at sea, everyone on board will be placed in one of our three watches, with plenty of time to rest in between. While on watch, the duties include helming, keeping a lookout, adjusting sails and the domestic tasks such as meal preparation and cleaning.

Once arrived in Faroe we will berth in Tórshavn ahead of the start of the Betri Island Games programme. Swan will be your base for the next 7 days and nights, enabling you to plan your own itinerary of sports spectating. Schedules are expected to be released for the games in early 2027 and we recommend that passengers book their match / activity tickets as soon as possible. The Swan Trust is unfortunately unable to book event tickets and these are not included in the price of the trip.

Following the conclusion of the games on 9^th July, we will spend an extra day in the Faroe Islands. Depending on weather and time, the skipper may use the day to visit some nearby islands as you begin the journey back home.

On Sunday 11^th July we will set sail back across the North Sea, again on an overnight passage, returning to Shetland. The journey will make best use of the weather conditions and, if time allows, we may be able to stop along a harbour or anchorage along the Shetland coast on our return to Lerwick.

You will disembark in Lerwick around 5.00pm on Tuesday 13^th July.

Included in voyage

• Accommodation for the whole voyage.
• All meals for the duration of your stay, as well as tea, coffee and biscuits at any time. You will be well fed! If you want to eat ashore any day you are berthed in Torshavn, this is no problem, but please advise the crew the day before so they can plan meals accordingly.
• Life jacket and safety line.
• Waterproof thermal suit if desired – please advise size required in advance.
• Mattress covers are provided.

What to bring with you

• Sleeping bag and pillow
• Waterproof trousers, jacket and shoes/wellies
• Thermals and warm layers of clothing
• gloves, hat, sunglasses
• Towel
• Collapsable bag e.g. duffel or sports bag. No trolleys, suitcases or hard cases as storage space is limited.
• Seasickness medication if known to be affected
• Sunscreen
