The perfect chance to see the jewels of Shetland and Orkney, all from the comfort of the Swan.
The itinerary for this trip will depend on the weather. A likely route would take you to some of Shetland’s prettiest destinations such as the village of Walls, the island of Foula, St Ninian’s Isle and Fair Isle, before heading towards some of Orkney’s north isles: Westray, Sanday and Stronsay would be a popular choice.
A night in Kirkwall may tickle your fancy, before rounding Orkney’s most southerly tip and heading back north to Scapa Flow. End your trip in the beautiful town of Stromness. Each night will either be spent in a local harbour or anchored in a sheltered cove.
The Swan is a sail training vessel, and as such you will take your turn on the helm, stand watch with the rest of your watch-mates, adjust sails and do safety checks usually on a 4 hour on–8 hour off watch system. You will also help out with domestic tasks such as cooking and cleaning. Everyone mucks in, from skipper to first-timer, and from the most to the least experienced. This will give you a strong sense of accomplishment and achievement – you are part of what makes your voyage happen, and your efforts will have a positive effect on the rest of the crew onboard.
