The perfect chance to see the jewels of Orkney and Shetland, combined with the exhilaration of sailing the traditional 118 year old vessel Swan.
Experiencing the long days of mid summer, or 'Simmer Dim' in local dialect, from a traditional boat like the Swan will provide an unforgettable memory.
The Swan is a joy to sail, so your itinerary will depend primarily on wind direction. You are likely to visit places such as Scapa Flow, Hoy, St Margaret’s Hope, Kirkwall, Shapinsay, Eday, North Ronaldsay, Fair Isle, Mousa, Out Skerries.
Each night will either be spent in a local harbour or anchored in a sheltered cove. Excellent meals will all be provided onboard however you are welcome to try out local fare if you prefer.
The Swan is a sail training vessel, and as such you will take your turn on the helm, stand watch with the rest of your watch-mates, adjust sails and do safety checks, usually on a 4 hour on–8 hour off watch system. You will also help out with domestic tasks such as cooking and cleaning. Everyone mucks in, from skipper to first-timer, and from the most to the least experienced. This will give you a strong sense of accomplishment and achievement – you are part of what makes your voyage happen, and your efforts will have a positive effect on the rest of the crew onboard.
