You will join Swan in Shetland and take an active part in sailing her to Stromness. This will include hauling on ropes, taking a turn on the helm, cooking, keeping the boat ship-shape, and standing watch, including a night watch. After all that you can be sure you will have made some good friends en route, enhancing the camaraderie on board. Imagine how much more fun the festival will be after countless shared experiences with your fellow crew members.

You will live on board the Swan for the duration of the festival, a truly unique and beautiful lodging; you will be the envy of all other attendees! At the discretion of the harbour master, she will be tied up alongside in the centre of the town, a stone’s throw from the centre of all the fun.

It will be up to you to buy any concert tickets through the Orkney Folk Festival website, but it’s useful to know that it is a pretty relaxed affair, where much of the fun and entertainment takes place in the local pubs in Stromness. So by all means, attend concerts, but you will still experience wonderful performances if you don’t!

You will arrange your own transport back home, as the Swan will begin her next adventure from the port of Stromness.

Check out the Orkney Folk Festival website for more information on the festival itself and for bookings.
