Have you ever wondered what a true ocean passage would feel like? This is your chance to find out!
You will board in Lerwick, and after a thorough safety briefing, set off for the spectacular Lofoten Islands.
The passage to Svolvaer should take in the region of 5 days, depending on weather conditions, and you will be out-with the sight of land for most of this time (although you may spot quite a few oil rigs).
The Swan is a sail training vessel, and as such you will take your turn on the helm, stand watch with the rest of your watch-mates, adjust sails and do safety checks, usually on a 4 hour on-8 hour off watch system. You will also help out with domestic tasks such as cooking and cleaning. Everyone mucks in, from skipper to first-timer, and from the most to the least experienced. This will give you a strong sense of accomplishment and achievement – you are part of what makes your voyage happen, and your efforts will have a positive effect on the rest of the crew onboard.
If the weather has been favourable there should be some time for exploring in Lofoten, which promises to be absolutely breathtaking.
Obviously this trip is entirely weather dependent and for safety reasons may alter route/departure date/arrival date.
For those who wish to use this trip as their qualifying passage for their RYA Ocean Yachtmaster ticket please email info@firstname.lastname@example.org to arrange discussion.
