The Swan has inspired a new range of Jewellery designed by Orkney based jewellers Aurora. The design of their Tall Ships collection is not only based on the Swan but also inspired by the Swan’s story of community, hope and renewal – being rescued and restored in the early 1990s and relaunched as a sail training vessel.
Designed by Teresa Shearer, the collection comprises necklaces, brooches, earrings, cufflinks and charms, all bearing the design inspired by the Swan. The collection was launched today, in the lead up to Lerwick welcoming the Tall Ships Fleet 26th – 29th July, as a host port for The Tall Ships Races 2023.
The Swan is currently heading out to Den Helder in the Netherlands, to join the fleet for the start of the Tall Ships Races. She will take part in all legs of the 2023 race, with a new set of youth trainees aboard for each leg. The first set of Trainees will sail from Den Helder to Hartlepool, UK, the second set form Hartlepool to Fredrikstad, Norway, the third set from Fredrikstad to Lerwick, Shetland, and the last set from Lerwick to Arendal, Norway, before returning on the Swan to Shetland.
Brian Wishart, Trustee of the Swan Trust, said: “The Swan has inspired many talented people over the years – from harp and fiddle tunes to paintings, cards and lampshades! We are delighted that she has now inspired this high quality range of jewellery, which bears her design in such a stunning way. We would like to thank Aurora Jewellery for showcasing the Swan through their design, and for their donation to the Trust. We look forward to seeing this new collection in their Lerwick store, and the Tall Ships Fleet returning to Lerwick.”
You can find out more about the inspiration behind the design on the Aurora website.
