A new chair has been appointed to lead the activities of the Swan Trust SCIO, which owns and operates the Swan (LK 243) – the refurbished ex-herring drifter which has served since 1998 as the community’s sail training vessel.
Mary Irvine from Brae – a former commadore of the Delting Boating Club - has now been appointed chair of the Trust’s board, taking over from David Goodlad – who led the Swan Trust for nine years.
Mary has been a trustee of the Swan since 2002, and says that she is honored to now take on the position of chair.
“I have had a lifetime interest in boats, with many happy memories of sailing adventures. It is my belief that the Swan makes a real contribution to the lives of the people of Shetland, particularly the young folk who sail on her, a truly life changing experience.”
Mary takes the helm of the Swan Trust at a time of ambitious development: with plans for a refurbished vessel forepeak to improve onboard facilities, and a mast replacement program to ensure that the Swan can remain an important community asset for decades to come.
The new chair will work closely with The Swan Trust staff: Strategic Priorities and Community Links Officer Emma Miller, plus Ana Stiebar as Finance Assistant and Polly Edwards as Administration Assistant.
