A seasoned farewell

30 September 2015

This week The Swan Trust waves farewell to Rory Johnson who has successfully skippered Swan during the summer 2014 and 2015 seasons.

Rory and his fiancée Linn Sagstad are heading off to warmer climes for more round-the-world sailing adventures starting in the Canary Isles. Linn also sailed onboard Swan as a crew member looking after everyone who sailed during the summer.

De-rigging of Swan also took place this week with further preparations being made to secure the ship before winter sets in.
Diary planning for The Swan Trust’s 2016 season is well underway and will feature whole and half day sails in and around Shetland’s coastline and outer isles, fishing trips, cruises and longer adventures across the North Sea in Norway and Scandinavia.

Swan will be berthed at Scalloway Boating Club during the winter and will be available for corporate events or entertainment onboard. Anyone interested in booking the vessel should contact Peter Campbell on 01595 69 5193 or email to petercambell@btinernet.com

Recruitment of a new skipper for next summer has started with adverts featuring in Shetland, Orkney and various sailing websites and publications. Click here to view the job advert.

Swan will visit two festivals on the UK Mainland, cruise down the Caledonian Canal, explore the Western Isles, and look to hop over to St Kilda. She will also be doing trips around Shetland, including a partnership with local musician Barry Nisbet to offer his Sessions and Sail in the isles for the first time, to coincide with the start of the 40th Shetland Folk Festival, and trips to coincide with Shetland Boat Week and the Festival of the Sea in Scalloway.  In August she will head over to Norway on a trip inspired by the Shetland Bus then take a cruise around the Hardangerfjord before returning to Shetland for September.
